The claim "oh, that's ancient history" is almost always a wish, am anxious attempt to put a boundary of time around some event that really is not over at all; it is a bid to silence the past.

About This Quote

As we grow up and age, we tend to forget the past and its events. However, we should never forget the past and events that made us who we are today. As we grow older, we tend to forget things that happened in our youth. For example, those who were born before 1970 often forget about World War II and the Holocaust as well as Vietnam or the Civil Rights Movement.

However, those born after 1970 often find themselves remembering those events and what was going on during their younger years. "The Claim" is one of the best examples of what we should never do. We should never make claims about something that happened in the past, because it’s not over and there is no point in telling people to “shut up about it already!”
